Two weeks ago, we spent the weekend in southern Virginia to each spend a day in a photography workshop. It was such a pivotal point for our business and such an incredible opportunity to get to spend a day surrounded by other professional photographers; learning and sharing tips on topics that pertain to the business and to the art of our trade. This was really the first time Frank and I were at the table with other wedding photographers and it was almost like we formally presented Happy Little Life Photography to the professional community! The knowledge and support that we gained from these two workshop groups was simply immeasurable and we can already see a huge impact!

First, Frank attended an off-camera flash (OCF) workshop with Luke and Ashley Photography in Newport News, Virginia. Luke and Ashley are so genuine and so talented. Their teaching style is hands on, so they share their equipment and let everyone practice to really get a solid handle on the techniques being taught. Frank was so excited after the workshop that I had to endure an hour-long OCF session as the photography subject when we got back to the hotel room! His knowledge seemed to double in a matter of a few hours and I can’t wait to see him in action using Luke and Ashley’s techniques.

Then that Sunday, I had the absolute honor to attend the Katie Nesbitt Workshop at Paisley and Jade in Richmond, Virginia. This full-day workshop was action-packed! We spent time talking business and then got to photograph a styled shoot right there in the showroom! It was exciting to see everyone’s individual styles. I can’t wait to see how my classmates captured all the beauty and I’m beyond excited to be able to share my photos with you in an upcoming blog post! The day was both informative and inspirational. I left there with clarity on the next three big things I need to do for our business and can’t wait to put them into action as soon as possible. I can’t thank Katie enough for sharing what she has learned in order to help make our businesses a big success too.

In addition to all that, we met some incredible photographers doing AMAZING things in the industry! It was such an honor to be able to learn from our instructors and the other photographers in the room. And it’s so exciting to think that the connections we made that weekend are some of our first friends in the photography community. I can’t wait to see how everyone’s businesses evolve and look forward to having our paths cross again, multiple times, as we all continue to grow in this industry!
