A Caribbean Adventure

Last week we bought two tickets to paradise and found ourselves relaxing on the sunny beaches of Puerto Rico. 85 degrees, bright sunshine and an island breeze….just what we were dreaming of as our plane was de-icing on the runway last Thursday morning! We found an amazing deal on room rates at a gorgeous hotel. It was just too good to pass up, so we took it as a sign to skip town for a few days. We are so used to budget-friendly accommodations that this was a totally new experience for us. I mean, Frank would literally choose to sleep in a tent over anything else (even our own bed)! The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was fabulous and the hotel grounds were so picturesque! We did not want to leave.

Most of our time was spent on the beach (check out the view from our hotel room on Instagram, but we ventured into Old San Juan for a little adventure one day. The town is adorable with its multi-colored dwellings set along the water. Surrounding the old town is a city wall with a fort on each side. Now a part of the National Park Service, El Morro was built in the 1500’s to protect the island from foreign enemies. Today the structure still sits strong and mighty among green grass and blue Caribbean water. Inside the city wall, the narrow roadways lead you to shops and restaurants around every corner. A few twists and turns later, we found ourselves a little off the beaten path and in front of an eclectic restaurant offering traditional Puerto Rican fare. You felt like you were family from the moment you walked in the door. And ahh, the food was so delicious!

I’m hoping we can bring some sunshine to your snowy Thursday.  If you are looking for a relaxing mid-winter getaway, check out Puerto Rico. You won’t regret it! Wishing you warm thoughts of spring to get you through these next few weeks of winter!
