A Happy Little Adventure / Charleston, South Carolina

Oh, Charleston! I have fallen in love all over again! After years of seeing images of Spanish moss and charming, historic neighborhoods, Frank and I finally made plans for a relaxing South Carolina vacation. With the Charleston visitor’s guide and recommendations from friends in hand, we booked the hotel and made the drive without any plans other than to see where our spirits moved us each day. For five days we found ourselves immersed in Civil War history. We stood where the first shots of the Civil War were shot, learned more about slavery and life on a plantation. We strolled through sweet Charlestonian neighborhoods and photographed plantation gardens and iconic live oak trees. We ate southern fare and spent evenings listening to live jazz. And ladies….we stood where Ryan Gosling stood when filming The Notebook!

I love to travel and to experience new places rather than returning to the same place year after year. But in leaving Charleston, I felt that 5 days was not nearly enough to experience all the richness, history and culture that this town had to offer. I also didn’t feel like we had enough time to try out all the restaurants! That never happens!

For all of you who are considering Charleston in your future travel plans, you won’t regret it! And just in case you need some additional inspiration, here are a few of our favorite images from our trip and a few recommendations for restaurants, plantations and other historical places for your visit.
