Small Business Saturday / Holiday Shopping Guide

I was watching This is Us the other night (sigh!) and a commercial came on the TV about Small Business Saturday…which is this Saturday, November 26th. It sparked an idea to share something a little different with you today.

I feel the need for a little confession. In recent years, I have become a Black Friday shopper…and also sometimes a Thanksgiving night shopper. I know, I know! But before you close out this post in disgust, let me explain. Holiday shopping is something that my mom and I started doing together over the last few years when I had a few days to visit with my parents back home over the long holiday weekend. It started on a whim and then turned into a little crazy tradition that we both look forward to each year. I have to admit, I love the hustle and bustle and the excuse to start the Christmas season right away! But I make sure to shop with a strategy for buying only the kiddos’ gifts, throwing elbows at the toys stores. I save space for supporting small businesses for the others on my shopping list and have really enjoyed trying to find that perfectly unique gift for friends and loved ones from a locally-owned shop or Etsy store.

And that brings me back to Small Business Saturday. Having been immersed in the creative industry over these last few years, I’ve gotten to know a lot of other small business owners either in person or through social media stalking ;-)…and there is just so much talent out there! I am constantly in awe of what some of these small business entrepreneurs are creating. So if you are looking for something different to put under the tree this year, I thought I’d share some of my favorite small businesses this holiday season. Hopefully you’ll check them out this Saturday as we kick off the holiday shopping season! And if you’re on my shopping list…don’t be buying anything for yourself! I’ve already got that covered!

Chaulk Full of Love – hand-lettered gifts (mugs, ornaments, candles, phone cases, pillows and other home goods) Check them out at: www.chaulkfulloflove.com.

Parris Chic Boutique – everything for the home with a Joanna Gaines kind of vibe. And for all my friends and family back home, this shop is Jersey-based. This was my go-to shop last year and I am loving them even more this year! Check them out at: www.shoppcbhome.com.

We Lived Happily Ever After – hand lettered prints and watercolor creations. They do gorgeous watercolor scenes on animals; I’ve been eyeing up this buffalo print since our trip out west! Check them out at: www.welivedhappilyeverafter.com.
